HIV testing in Palm Beach County

Rapid HIV testing can give you an answer quickly — but knowing when to test after an exposure is just as important.

Rapid HIV testing in Wellington

A Wellington healthcare provider offers rapid HIV testing. Results are typically available in about 15 minutes.

Important: “15-minute results” describes how quickly the test is read. It does not mean HIV can be detected 15 minutes after an exposure.

What is an HIV window period?

The window period is the time after exposure when a test may not yet detect HIV. The exact window depends on the type of test. CDC notes that laboratory antigen/antibody tests can usually detect HIV sooner than antibody-only tests.

What if the rapid test is reactive?

A reactive screening result is not the final diagnosis by itself. Follow-up confirmatory testing is used to determine HIV status.

What if the exposure happened very recently?

Within the last 72 hours? Ask about PEP immediately. PEP is medication that can reduce the chance of acquiring HIV after a possible exposure, but it must be started within 72 hours and the sooner the better.

Should I test again later?

Depending on the test and when it was performed, a clinician may recommend repeat testing after the relevant window period. Tell them the date of your possible exposure.
